Chemical peels vary in ingredient composition as well as penetration depths. A peel will be chosen for you based on your skin concerns and type. Peels vary from superficial with very minimal downtown to deep peels meant to treat scarring.
Light to Medium chemical peels penetrate into the epidermis, the top layer of the skin, speeding up the exfoliation process and in turn treating congestion, dark spots and rejuvenating your overall skin.
Deep chemical peels penetrate to the very bottom layer of the epidermis where they stimulate your skin’s natural healing response and promote collagen and elastin production. These peels are typically used to treat scarring and moderate to severe pigmentation.

First, your esthetician will assess your skin to decide which peel would best suit your skin type and concerns. Next, your esthetician will cleanse your skin thoroughly. Dermaplaning, a deep physician exfoliation, may be done at this time to boost the results of your treatment. Once your skin has been prepped, a chemical solution is then applied to your entire face. Your technician will avoid application to your brows, eyes and lips.
During your peel application you may experience a slight tingling (light to medium peels) or a burning sensation (deep peels). Cool air can be provided during your treatment to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Your technician carefully observes changes in the appearance of your skin to allow the solution to sit for the optimal length of time, additional passes of the solution may be applied at this time. The solution used for your treatment is either rinsed off or left on the skin depending on the type of chemical peel used.
Immediately after your peel you should expect slight redness that typically dissipates within a day or two. The day after your peel your skin may feel dry and tight. Peeling typically begins 24-72 hours post-treatment and lasts 5-7 days. Post-treatment instructions and skincare tailored to your treatment will be recommended for you.

Following your chemical peel it is important to avoid sun exposure for two weeks. After that period, we recommend you continue to protect your skin by using sunscreen on a daily basis. We would be pleased to discuss our sunscreens to determine which ones would be best suited for your skin.
It’s best to choose sunscreens that are non-comedogenic and oil free.
When treating a specific condition, like acne, chemical peels can be performed every four weeks. To maintain your results or for overall skin rejuvenation we suggest that chemical peels be performed seasonally (every 3-4 months).
